CS323 - Fall 2019 - CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. September 9, 2019: TODAYS CLASS IS CANCELLED.
2. September 24, 2019: The PREPARING FOR CLASS page is up to
date.
3. September 29, 2019: Some handouts illustrating and comparing
various
root-finding methods have been added to the Handouts
page.
4. October 2, 2019: The Handouts page now has notes for our current
topic, systems of linear equations.
5. October 9, 2019: The Homeworks page has an up-to-date,
corrected version of the first homework. It should also be soon
available via Sakai.
6. October 15, 2019: A past 323 midterm has been posted on the
"Exams" page; also a few solutions.
7. October 16, 2019: (Homework 1 should be submitted MANUALLY in
a box (or two) left outside my office (Hill 417), on Fri., Oct. 18,
by 2PM. An alternative is to submit to the TA during recitation on
Thurs. Oct. 17.
8. (October 20, 2019) The midterm will be on MONDAY, October 28,
and IN CLASS. Try to come a little earlier, in case you have to move
to an extra room.
9. (October 20, 2019) There is a new handout on the Handout page
concerning the Hilbert Matrix as the coefficient matrix of a linear
system. I may discuss it in class tomorrow.
10. (October 21, 2019) Class today begins as usual.
11. (October 22, 2019) Some more previous exam questions are
posted on the Past Exams page.
12. (Nov. 7, 2019) Review Sheet 3 on approximation by polynomials
is now available on the Handouts page.
13. (Nov. 18, 2019) HW2 is now available via the Homeworks
page. It is due next week.
14. (Dec. 3, 2019) HW3 will be available tonight.
15. (Dec. 3, 2019) A previous final exam is posted on the Exams page.
16. (Dec. 3, 2019) HW3 is now available.
17. (Dec. 5, 2019) A corrected version of HW3 now appears on the
HW page - question 5 had a confusing misprint.
18. (Dec. 11, 2019) In Hw3 question 6, the function is
f(x)=x**2.
19. (Dec. 13, 2019) The final exam takes place on Monday, Dec. 16,
from 8-11PM. Its a closed-book exam but you may use 2 pages of
prepared notes. The exam room is in SEC111 (thats the Science and
Engineering (resource) Center just opposite HIll Center and
Engineering. Try to arrive a few minutes early.
20. (Dec. 14, 2019) There are now answers posted for most of the
questions from the previous (posted) final.
21. (Dec. 15, 2019) A typo discovered in the solutions for the old exam for
question 1h: y=9/8-x/4 is the minimax line.
