family and friends

Before cell phones became widespread, most families owned a single home-phone. With the extensive use of cell phones in households, however, family members have become more individual and less collaborative. In modern society, virtually each family member has their own cell phone, whether they be a child or adult. Due to growing social networking, especially with cell phones, people are becoming more socially active on the Internet but less active as a family in the household. As a result, there is diminishing communication and a sense of loneliness for each individual. Children, especially, miss out on family activities and bonding mainly because they are glued to the screens of their smartphones. Hence, cell phones have the potential to harm the family life of each individual involved.
