What do you like best about this course?:
Interesting new stuff.
The project work
Professor Badrinath's teaching was awesome. One of the best Professors of Rutgers.
The concepts & how the professor relates it all to real-world.
The professor is very friendly and approachable. He teaches very well.
The sheer amount of information and keeping up with the latest trends and articles related to the course.
Learning a lot of thing about computer networks through this course.
Tesearch pAper reading was excellent thing
The project was the best part of this course. Also the research papers were very informative.
Open book exams that focus more on application rather than rote learning. A grad course should be like this. We learnt a lot of new things about networks by Prof Badri Nath picking up new papers and explaining them to us.
I've seen few other networks related courses and audited. But they all used to focus on the existing architectures, protocols and history. But this course has actually given an insight into how networks are realized in the real world. Before taking this course, I wasn't as clear as I'm today atleast with the basic concepts.
The range of topics being covered. The Professor had a knack of putting the most complicated topics in the simplest form.
The teaching by the professor
A good advance over the basic Computer Networks that I did in my undergrad
If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:
It is perfect
Not repeat exam questions from previous years. Unfair for students who do not know any one who has taken the course.
Would slow down a bit during the end of the lecture.
The introductory part was great, but could have been a bit shorter to accommodate more content from the recent research.
SDN is the way Networking is headed these days. Knowing how to write code for controllers would help. In this course the emphasis on SDN was diluted to a great extent.
Nothing, its perfect as it is.Although, I would give project topics with more diversity and less ambiguity.
No. The professor's teaching manner is very good, I think.
Give more assignments so as to gain a better understanding of the research papers.
I would like to keep the class in later hours
I don't think this course could have been better
Nothing, Prof. Badri taught this course in an excellent way!
I would have given more hands on practical assignments, to get a feel for what is being done in class.
Give more assignments related to the material covered in the class. Be it paper-based or general theory-based
Maybe go a bit more into details of some of the topics. And probably replace in-class exams with paper summaries/ other assignments.
Nothing
In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:
I've learnt to look at the internet in a way I haven't looked at before.
Solidified foundation on networks and got a deeper insight into how the current trends are in terms of internet growth.
By reading so many papers, I now think differently about networks, it has definitely aided me in my approach to research and about how to write my own papers (which I am currently working on)
The course work is framed in such a way that the flow between topics and research papers in the affiliated fields help students in understanding the real world picture of the concepts. Also, freedom in choosing project work's topic is another best thing in this course. The lecture helped the most since Professor used to explain complex terms for our level in a much simpler way.
The choice of papers were just great. It is quite easy to get into research if interested in one of the topics.
Encouraged us to read a lot of papers most of which were extremely up to date
Other comments or suggestions::
Exam questions referring to the research papers is not required. Rather, all the h.w should be based on the research papers and exam questions should be on the material covered in lectures. Prof. is really good in teaching the content.
Nothing really. Professor was really good.
This is the best course I've taken in the grad school. It gave a lot of motivation towards the Networks domain. Reading research papers was boring and unmanageable earlier but now it's fun. Prof. Badri is awesome :D !
It would have been better if the Professor had involved the students in more discussion sessions and research. But it was a great joy to have attended the class under Prof. Badri. Learned a great deal. Thank you Professor!
Last class was not held. Since it's a 3 hr class, I feel some important concepts that are yet to be taught are left out. Also I feel more assignments geared towards understanding the important points discussed in class (be in from Paper or theory) need to be given so that we understand them better!
